A voice raised in Bangalore, at home in the San Francisco Bay Area — singing, writing, teaching, and making beautiful things with beautiful people.

The Drawing Room

A story that begins in Bangalore

Ranjani learned to sing the way heirlooms are passed down — at home, from her mother, a gold-medalist Carnatic classical vocalist. The training took: she has shared a stage with the legendary S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, performed within the walls of the Mysore Palace, and carries songs in eight languages — Hindi, Kannada, and Tamil closest to heart.

Today she lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, where the same voice moves between recording studios, wedding stages, fashion sets, and living rooms full of students — a life built on the idea that craft is craft, whatever the medium.

As JANIGMA, she writes and records

Her recording project reimagines pop through an Indian lens — original writing, old souls, new arrangements.

Ranjani consults on makeup and fashion — an eye for color, texture, and the way a look holds light, sharpened through work with global brands. The same instincts that shape a phrase of music shape a face, a silhouette, a frame.

The Salon

A gathered room is an instrument too

In Silicon Beach, Ranjani organizes startup events — rooms where founders, builders, and the curious find each other. Hosting, it turns out, is another kind of performance: you set a tone, you read the room, you bring people in.

What was given, she gives on

Her mother taught her at home; she teaches the same way. Voice lessons rooted in the Carnatic tradition and opened to Bollywood, film, and pop — one to one, in person around the Bay Area or over Zoom, for beginners and performers alike.
